MID-AMERICA BOUNDERS
AUGUST NEWSLETTER
September 9, 2010
Hello MAB Members,
Well, we have just had our MAB/MOB Rally at Silver Creek Luxury RV Resort, Mears, MI.
Our hosts were Randy & Sue DeGeus and Co-Hosts were Dan DeGeus, Luke and Elizabeth
Bonnough of the Michigan ‘O’ Bounders (MOB). Those attending from our chapter were: Bruce
& Beth Bailey, Herb & Sue Feltner, Jerry & Carol Hardacre, Joe & Tommie Nash and daughter
Beth, Tom & Judy Robinson, Gale & Joan Scheller, Larry & Jolly Ann Whitener. On
Wednesday, August 25, for those who came early, we were treated to a farm tour of
COUNTRY DAIRY located in New Era, MI. It is a working family owned farm that also has a
processing plant on site, as well as a Farm Store & Deli where we ate lunch. They are known as
the “Home of the Bottomless Cup of Milk,” which means that after you buy your first glass of
milk there are unlimited refills. What a deal! The dairy also has a fresh meat market of corn-
fed and hormone free beef from their own steer herd. Of course, let’s not forget the cheeses
and the ICE CREAM!
On Thursday it was a free day to explore the surrounding towns like Hart, Mears, Pentwater
and Silver Lake. Some members of the MOB provided Jeep rides on the Silver Lake Dunes for
all who wished to experience this great adventure. At the top of the dunes you could see Lake
Michigan. It was absolutely breathtaking. All MAB members took part in these rides but one
member in particular really got “hooked.” Yes, Sue Feltner had several rides and whenever the
offer was made, she was there!
On Friday, a beautiful, sunny, blue ski greeted us as we were all treated to pontoon boat rides
around Silver Lake. At one point, they beached all 4 boats at the foot of the dunes, and some
hearty souls attacked the high sand dunes. Some made it all the way - some on their hands and
knees but they made it to the top. Those who made the climb from MAB were Bruce Bailey,
Tommie, & Beth Nash and Jerry Hardacre. Herb & Sue Feltner & Jolly Ann Whitener took a
more gentle path. A big thank you goes to Randy DeGeus for his help in getting some of us on
and off the pontoons without a ladder. What a wonderful and delightful two hours.
For dinner Friday evening, we had a picnic style meal of sandwiches, on or off the grill, with all
the fixings. This was a fun day and an experience to remember for a long time. Those who were
in attendance were given a lovely wooden kangaroo plaque, made by a now deceased MOB
member. Stan Zielinski personalized each plaque with our names, the date and “The Dune
Cruise.” We thank them so much for this lovely memento. Also, Randy and Sue DeGeus started
a tradition in their chapter that whenever you made your ride on the dunes you were given a
small flag with the name of the dune and the date you made the ride. All MAB members present
received a flag. I think this is very symbolic as you must have a 14foot flag on whatever you
are driving on the dunes. Then, about 9:00 p.m. that evening 22 people made the traditional Ice
Cream Run into The Sweet Shop at Mears, MI.
Saturday morning MOB hosted a pancake and bacon breakfast which certainly started the day
off right! Then MOB and MAB had their respective chapter meetings. Afterwards, we were
free to again explore or have Jeep rides on the dunes. For our evening meal, a huge pit roaster
was brought in and we enjoyed “Pit Roasted Turkeys” along with potatoes and corn provided by
our hosts. Everyone brought a dish to share. It was delicious! Of course, at 9:00 p.m. some
had to make the traditional Ice Cream Run to Mears.
Sunday morning found us saying our goodbyes with reluctance as some of us had to leave and
some got to stay and enjoy more of this beautiful area. Many thanks go to the MOB for giving
us such great memories!
“No good thing is pleasant to possess without friends to share it.”

jobs to fit anyone’s ability. We have found that when doing these rallies, that this truly will be
one of the most fun things to do. You will meet new people and find out that we all experience
some of the same things in life. Please go to our website at www.mabounders.org and help
spread the word that this rally is open to any Bounder owner whether they belong to BOA or
not.
NOMINATING COMMITTEE’S REPORT:
New officers will be elected at our September meeting. The Nominating Committee’s slate is as
follows as presented by Paula Young.
President Rick Groves
Vice-President Joe Nash
Secretary Kathy Groves
Treasurer Jolly Whitener
Nominating Committee Member Dick Clay
REMINDER: Dick Clay still has MAB shirts @ $22.00 each and MAB hats @ $12.00. Anyone
needing shirts and/or hats, e-mail or phone Dick Clay@ arcy42@aol.com or 815-953-9741. He
will bring any orders to the October rally in Elkhart.
WELCOME: J. D. and Rosie Weisbruch who joined MAB at the Branson rally. They live in
Crystal Lake, IL. We are so happy they have decided to join us.
CONCERNS: Our get-well wishes go to Kathy Groves who had very extensive foot surgery in
August. She is progressing nicely and hopes to be attending the September & October rallies.
Melvin and Nancy Coy intended to come to the August rally but they unfortunately had a tire
blow out only a few days before the rally that damaged the under carriage of their coach. At
this writing the coach is still in the shop, and hopefully near completion. In addition to the
coaches ailments, Nancy developed a blood clot in her leg and was hospitalized for a few day
and is now home. Then Melvin developed Cellulitis in his leg. Keep them in your prayers.
NOTICE: Please be advised that the members directory has temporarily been taken
off-line. If you need any information from that directory, please contact one of the
Club officers.
President’s Corner
Another month has past by and no rain to speak of. I don’t know about your area but we are
dry, dry, dry. Except for the May Rally and the National Rally our MAB camping season has
been a little “dry.” For what ever reason, the June and August rallies had some low numbers
for attendance, however, we made up for it at the Branson Rally in July, we had the honor of
having the most chapter members in attendance than any other chapter.
The next rally, at Kentuckiana, will be a very important rally to attend. It will be our election
of officers and we need as many there as possible. The nominated slate is listed above but if
anyone wants to nominate any additional candidates from the floor, they must get that nominee’
s consent to run. This rally will also be important from the standpoint of further planning for
the BOA/BU International Rally next May.
Our October rally should be an exciting time with the Jean & Barbara Zielinski hosting and the
Groves as Co-Hosts. It will be a Halloween theme. I am assuming there will be some sort of
dress up contest. You want to be thinking of what you will want to wear. And speaking of
“Thinking ahead,” you want to be thinking about what to bring from your area for the “Door
Prizes” next May. Also, Elkhart is the home of the RV Museum, which is very interesting.
Carol & I have had the privilege of serving you all in MAB for the last six years as President
and Secretary. It has been a challenge but a pleasure. We are, however, looking forward to
retiring again. I shall still remain as Rally Master in May, but the next President will be
presiding. We wish to thank you all for giving us this honor, confidence and support.
We hope to see most of you at Kentuckiana Kampgrounds on September 16th with bells on ready
for another great rally.
Happy Boundering,
Jerry L. Hardacre
