MAB JANUARY 2012 NEWSLETTER
Greetings to all our Bounder friends and Bounders of America. It is finally winter
here in the mid-west and our Bounders are outside shivering and being covered with
snow. We can’t be discouraged though, spring is not too far off and Seiverville is
not that far away. The snow will be melted and the warm sunshine will stop the
shivering. A quick wash and a methodical checking of vitals and we are all off to
another unforgettable adventure and another International BOA rally. I can’t wait!
Mid-America Bounders gathered once again this year at our traditional pilgrimage
and Christmas celebration. Our thanks go out to Bob and Jan Israelson for hosting
our luncheon. Bob entertained us all with his collection of antique and collectable
guns while Jan made us all feel welcome into their beautiful home. We had a
wonderful catered lunch and a few hours to catch up on all the latest news. It is
amazing how much catching up there is since our October rally but we managed to
fill the time with warm and friendly fellowship. In attendance were Jerry and
Carol Hardacre, Herb and Sue Feltner, Jim and Nina Francis, Larry and Jolly
Whitener, Rick and Kathy Groves, Bob and Jan Israelson, Bruce and Beth Bailey.
CONCERNS:
We are sad to report that Kathy's Dad, Joe, passed away on Thanksgiving Day.
He so enjoyed accompanying us on rallies and getting to spend time with each and
everyone of you. He certainly will be missed. We thank all of your for the
prayers and thoughts.
We need to keep Tommie Nash in our prayers. She has some serious medical
issues.
The Mid-America Bounders 2012 rally schedule did not become final by the end of
the 2011 camping season. Several of our rallies are set however and I would like
to share with everyone where we will be traveling this year.

very nice facility. This is a nice park and there is so much to do in the St. Louis /
St. Charles area.
Finally, in an effort to fight boredom this winter, I have taken on a research
project to produce a list of names that many of us have given to our GPS
equipment. I am convinced there is a little person that has taken up residence in
each and every one of these devices. That little person has a voice and in my
case, has a mind and personality of its own. Yes, Kathy and I have named our
Garmin “Ethel”. The name Ethel for our purposes, came from the movie “On Golden
Pond”. Katharine Hepburn (Ethel Thayer) played opposite Henry Fonda in this
wonderful movie which has become my favorite movie of all times. Ethel Thayer….
sounds like I’m lisping doesn’t it? At any rate, our GPS has a shaky little voice like
Katharine Hepburn and I just like calling her Ethel when we have our little
conversations. Like…(Ethel) ”Make a left turn 100 ft.” (Me) “Are you sure?”
(Ethel) “Recalculating” (Me) “I would hope so” (Ethel) “Make a U turn” (Me)
…Well, you answer this one! Now for your help. Send me the loving name of your
GPS device and a brief story on how you came about your name selection. I will
put this together and somewhere down the road we will have a little fun! Send
responses to rgroves@mabounders.org.
That’s it for now from Mid-America. Look forward to seeing everyone in May.
